LWD s5e9!!
I’ve referenced Data and Vic Fontaine but not Voyager’s EMH because I decided that as in the Prime universe Bashir would have modelled the LMH instead, in this universe the EMH was never based on Zimmerman at all? (but maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know)

This Julian Bashir chose his name because it was cooler than his old one, was OK being a doctor from the get-go and to play tennis on his leisure time, and never thought to downplay his abilities.
Fuck it, nobody could be that stupid to mix up pre- and post-ganglionic nerves even with exam jitters!
So he placed first in his class, was offered any posting he wanted and still chose DS9 over the Lexington.
But first! he helped design the EMH—the later LMH would be based on someone else with more life experience not just experience on the job, more patience and more gentle bedisde manners (Dr Crusher was offered and declined).
As often in young doctors this one’s a bit arrogant—but he’s very very good at on-the-fly diagnoses, and cavalier bedside manners don’t matter as much in an EMH as in a GP as long as the job is done quickly and efficiently on emergencies. And, yeah he’s the best in this field.
While the real Dr Bashir went on with his life and his carreer, matured and mellowed, the EMH based on him followed his own path, hardened by only getting deployed during emergencies—or when a bored, socially-awkward lieutenant would decide that his rampant anxiety and inability to open up to a flesh-and-blood councelor were emergency enough to ask him for help—and the unnerving life experience of gaining sentience through such prolonged uses while being routinely dismissed by coworkers as a mere appliance.
