When Garak meets the EMH, his coworker stares at him all starry-eyed and promptly puts its metaphorical foot in its holographic mouth.
‘Oooh seldom seen species! May I do a physical? you know to have a baseline just in case anything—let’s hope not of course but—happened to you. Like I want to get to know you as a person to best work together but also…’
‘Are you always this forward?’
‘Ah well this is me, very honest and enthusiastic; modelled after the best I’m told!’
Holo!Bashir doesn’t antagonize on purpose, doesn’t accidentally flirt but his over-enthusiasm reads easily as on-purpose interference and the resulting annoyance feels close enough.
He’s so unguarded, contrary to most of his usual coworkers who keep seeing Cardassians as the historical enemy. No prejudice on his part, only curiosity—but not as something to be dissected but analyzed and befriended (very Starfleet of him of course… but refreshing in a way?)
‘Sooo… were you sent here as a diplomatic exchange or..?’
‘You could say that.’
In a way. Though Garak doesn’t like his chances of ever coming back from this mission.
‘The very top of your field on your planet?’
‘I’d say so myself; jealous peers would disagree.’
Truth spills:
‘Tradition has it that men are not suited for The Sciences, they don’t have the brains for that. However I’ve operated on a fair share of male and female and a few in-between and neither, brains, and there was not difference. Neurology is neurology.’

Date: 2025-02-06 03:40 pm (UTC)I think it's a false cognate, oops; I was aiming for "meddling" but with a classier word. Not sure if I should replace with interference or interfering in this case?
