Hokuto made a new friend. Hokuto is an open-minded, open-hearted, friendly girl who gets along easily with all the people she meets… as long as they’re not the ones to run away because she was too extravert and too immediately friendly with them. Mais with Her, things are special.
She rescued Her from what she thought were street harassers, and if she was confronted again with the same situation, she would do it again. Always. For Her as she would do for any other girls harassed by perverts. And yes, even now, knowing that these guys were in fact governmental agents. She’s an illegal alien, as they say, and they were trying to arrest her to send her back to “her country”. The country she left willingly, leaving behind her family, her friends, her smile, her memories, to come and try her chance here. She guesses that the decision must have been a very tough one to make, but most probably for very good reasons, and her country, now, it’s here; period.
It’s true that from the shape of her face, of her eyes, the tone of her skin, Hokuto can guess She's not from their land, their archipelago, but from somewhere on the continent, from another country. A country she left. But She's here now so this country is hers too: She chose it, She lives here. And if She wants to stay here, in a place that treats her so badly, where she lost her smile, where she’s under constant threat because her identity card mentions another country… then it means that it must have been even worse, so much worse, over there, and She’s so very brave if she’s able to keep it up despite the circumstances. Hokuto admires Her greatly for this.
She could come all the way across the world and Hokuto would welcome her all the same. Hokuto doesn’t bother much with politics. All she saw and all she knows is that some guys were brutally man—or, woman-handling? Her. As far as she’s concerned, She never did anything wrong that warranted such violence.
And she'll bemoan the fact that so many of her fellow citizens are so close-minded they and think their country is so very different from the others and so special, they'll close their hearts and theirs borders to their neighbours.
As long as she's concerned, her heart is open, her arms too. If she can make a difference for Her this way...
There’s nothing much Hokuto can do to help Her obtain a permanent residence permit. Were she a guy she doesn’t even know if she could propose to marry her. She would do it in a heartbeat if she was sure it would help, but it may not.
For the safety of the both of them she should not show up too often at the pub where She works, as not to draw too much attention. All she can do it to come and see Her as often as She wants to, on the free time She can afford from work and choose to spend with her without getting too tired, so she can try to simply be with Her, take care of Her, and bring back a smile on Her face.
