Electronics enginer, what good is it for? to raise your children as robots ? once asked one of her choldhood friends' father.
No, to fix your children's robots
Yoko as a teenager didn't know yet how right she was. Getting married, having children, back then, were abstract concepts. Then she thought she'd never do any of that after a bad disappointment. Time passed on it, she rethought what she wanted from life.
Well, she's not married, but she adopted a child whom she loves dearly and tries not to spoil to much. Toys are full of electronics, even the ones for earliest childhood and she wonders whether that's good or not. She tried to interest Morning Dew in dolls wearing cute dresses, to no avail: her little girl'd rather wear real sized cute dresses and doesn't need another doll, neither simpler nor more beautiful than the one she already have. It's a bit ugly but it says Mom and Pol was the one who gifted it to her in the first place so she grew attached to it.

Until the day it breaks down and drama ensues. The doll's stuck on repeating the same garbled syllable again and angain in a nightmarish chant.
Whether Morning Dew asks for it or not, Yoko decides she will fix the problem right now: she won't stand the noise much longer. One thing is sure: the battery isn't dead--that would have been so easier to fix if only the toy fell mute!
Yoko carefully cuts open Mrs Chu, takes the unit out and removes the battery: at least it will silence the whole thing and let her work in peace. She checks the battery's level: it's still good but she could still replace it, just to be sure.
She tests every component : it's the micro-unit that's fried, acting up and scrambling le pre-recorded track. And this, can't be fixed. She can replace the bit, and better up the whole circuit, she can add diodes and resistors to help secure things, and change the button for one that won't get stuck, but she'll still need a new micro-unit.
She can order one cheap from Hong Kong with the same track, knowing it might very well break down again, and wait for the long delivery time, or find quickly another doll to donate a new unit with a different voice. What to do, what to do...

Morning Dew doesn't care much about the voice, thankfully. She wants her doll to call her Mom, and that's all. The voice doesn't matter as long as the word is said; she'll invent her own games around it. And the word only comes from Mrs Chu : Morning Dew herself never calls Yoko Mom.
Mrorning Dew had a mom, and a dad, a Yoko is another kind of parent altogether. She's not a second mother, she's a guardian and a caregiver. The way Morning Dew says her name with all her heart proves she's right. It's so much better than the bland way the doll recites it!

Yoko herself was named after her mother's favourite doll, who thought she'd have a boy her husbnad would have named. But she didn't stay a doll for long: very soon she became a lively little girl with games of her own games. Morning Dew is following the same path now.
So Yoko phones Pol and asks him to find any speaking toy that'd say the right word--he does this better than she--and she take the talking bit out of it, fixes it a bit, put it right there inside the doll, and stitches it carefully. Nether sewing nor suturing are her forte but she does her best with it. Morning Dew appreciates the hard work. And, if it wasn't enough, the promise of a new pretty dress to hide the scar on the doll's body will certainly do the trick.

I'm so sorry for the belated comment; the notif got lost in my inbox. ^^;; But this is wonderful and sweet, just the sort of not!Mom I'd expect Yoko to be, and truly I'm sure she'll have a lot of toys and gadgets to fix in the future!

Thank you so much~! <3
