Howard, keeping an eye on Siri from the shadows, accidentally looks like a pervert. What with spying on pre and just pubescent kids? Caught red-handed, he could tell a half truth, present himself as a protective uncle stepping in the place of a dead father and looking over his niece in a bit of an overbearing way. Oh sure he was trying to give her room and still checked everything. Like a first innocent love for a slightly older boy: oh no she's too young for that!
Holding hands, sweet promises and little gifts were ok but there would be strictly no kissing and never mind even thinking about anything else...
But no. Something as wholesome was too far-fetched for him. Better to outright lie and pretend he had no tie at all with the girl, her budding emotions and her well-being in general. That... was closer to the truth anyway.
