Chubby wished to become a champion, back then. He had his own desire, a strong will, good discipline, and even Dave’s help on his side for it. At first it was a rather vague wish, like for so many other people. Then Dave came along and Chubbs wanted to make him proud.
Well, it stayed a dream. His body is a it is: all the dieting in the world would not melt his fat layer. He’s got all the muscles underneath it, and strength! just not speed or flexibility.
If all he wanted was “to be a champion” he could give up boxing and turn to, say, sumo. But, boxing and Dave and their Club are his whole world. To be a part of that forever and to be useful here, is what he really wished for. He could be the best manager in the world and Dave would be his?
