Lieutenant Mendoza is an intelligent woman, an excellent detective; that much Howard can say. And he doesn’t say much, usually; he tries to always stay as polite as he can, but he seldom goes out of his way to outwardly express respect, much less pay compliments, to anyone. Not when he measures people according to how useful or harmful to his personal goals.
This one? is perceptive, persevering, still able of questioning everything she thinks she knows, and of bold deductions. She’s intelligent, yes… but even as he acknowledges it, it’s still no compliment he pays here. Not anymore. It’s a condemnation.
Because she’s too intelligent, and on top of that she’s incredibly upright and would never put with any understanding he could suggest. She’s way too dangerous. He’ll need to get rid of her instead.
