Scieszka thought she could just leave her time in Riesenburg behind and go back to her regular life. But to cut Winry out of it? that, she couldn't in a million years.
Truth to be tolde she couldn't live without her. She had to admit: she could never forget what they shared. And she didn't want to!
She was part of her life, not just part of her past. They'd been happy together while it lasted. Sure, Scieszka was the one to decide she ought to go back to Central and to her job in the Army. All the responsible adult's excuses she served. She couldn't erase this decision. However much she wished for it...
Say, I made a mistake and I'm sorry, let's forget what I said and let's pretend everything's still as it was...
Could Winry accept that, take in what Scieszka had to say, what she had to ask, take her back in..?
Quick, she needed to write everything down. Paper, pen! And those words running through her head. Now that it was her job to transcribe everything she remembered ever reading, she took on the habit of consigning her own thoughts too.
If you agree there is something, well, lots of things, I want to tell you. My whole life only makes sense if I can tell you about it, and I'd love for you to tell me about your life. What do I really know about you, what do you know about me?
Everything had happened too fast.
It is true, she couldn't stay there forever. But maybe, she could keep on sharing her life with Winry, in a way? Go on, start anew, give themselves a second chance? It wouldn't hurt to hope. And she had nothing left to lose in trying. That couldn't hurt their friendship, right?
They were friends, Scieszka kept reminding herself. It'd be normal that they wrote each other and exchanged news, of each other but also their shared friends. Surely Winry'll want to know how Mrs Gracia and little Elysia were doing; Mrs Gracia was holding up better and better, Elysia growing up fine And hopefully Winry'd like to learn whatever happened in Central that newspapers wouldn't print? Anyways Scieszka very much wanted to know how Alphonse was doing, had his memory returned, how was he adapting; whether they still hadn't heard from Edward, and also how Ms Rose was doing, had she had her life back up together?
She put down on paper all the joy, all the hope she could. She chose every word carefully. She had to write down the best possible, most interesting account of everything that was going on, and then phrase her questions about Riesenburg in an engaging way. She wanted to tell Winry that she was fine, without suggesting that she was happier without her.
She hoped she did a good job of it.
Just, when signing off, she hesitated. She dared not add hugs & kisses as she spontaneously wanted to.
Best wishes. Not too formal. Not too chummy.
But, if Winry answered, then she would on the next letter. it's a promise!
