Pupils at Wellington got a thorough education. Reading, writing, counting, what was supposedly the very basis was at times botched in some of Paxtown's all-comers schools. This school was several notches above entry level!
So they also learned to recite, draw, sing and play a musical instrument of their choosing, to keep house... Yes it could seem backwards, especially with their posh uniforms, but what about balancing a budget, or knowing enough of their country's history to choose correctly how to vote when they'd be old enough? So yes, Wellington taught them heaps of extra stuff on top of a regular curriculum and it pleased snobbish parents... and it added value to alumni as débutantes.
These young ladies, upon graduating, may look like precious dolls but, if everything went right, with a good thinking head planted on their gracious body.
