One would argue that a sensible witch has no kitchen junk whatsoever.
Say you’re someone down-to-earth who only uses the most basic utensils, nothing fancy, the bare necessities… and still on top of basic stuff you’ll have a differently shaped knife, a longer handled fork, an egg beater because a fork can only bring you so far before your arm begs for mercy—and gods forbid, gifts from relatives or acquaintances!
You may not want it and not need it but it’s improper to turn down a gift and you will accumulate fancy stuff nobody really knows how to use—no, you’re never going to learn how to make that Klatchian dish yourself.
Of course there’s a ball of string—it’s always useful to have a ball of string, to string a roast with or, or anything that needs fixing back together with a bit of string—and the ball of string shouldn’t come unravaled by itself in the drawer and all tangled in all the forks, the damned forks (why are there so many forks?) and godsforsaken stuff--
City people could get away with this situation by donating that stuff to the nearest temple, or selling it to the dwarves for scrap metal value. A witch has a reputation to maintain and so usually has no choice but to keep it and only sort it out when time comes to leave her steading to her successor.
No it’s not junk! It’s… stuff. Stuff that sticks and rattles.
You have it perfectly ordained in the drawer, you shut it—carefully—and then it jumps around and sticks—like it’s got a life in itself. Gods damn it.
Witches don’t worship the gods—maybe the gods exist like many facts of life but it’s no reason to go and «believe» in them let alone worship them. Yet Anoia has a way of intricating herself every and anywhere stuff is done.
