For the Medarda family came first and Ambessa protected her children, the Clan, the Empire at all costs. The best defense being offense, it meant eliminating all rivals before they could turn into serious menaces.
Mel proved too soft, unsuited for tough decisions—Ambessa had to send her away.
Kino was stronger-willed but overconfident; it made it arrogant and led to his downfall. A lapse that Ambessa will never forgive herself for.
She needs to get her one remaining child back—Mel is still her daughter. Hopefully she grew efficient while toying with soft Piltovans, learned to rule them over?

Oh, I really enjoyed seeing things from her POV - she is a piece of work and I'm honestly on Mel's side 100%, but Ambessa is a badass and has her reasons.

Thank you! I'd say she was more interesting than Cassandra to explore--in a way what she does is worse but more... justified? at least in her eyes? I mean I disapprove what she did, but... I sort of understand?

YES, all of this! Characters that make me go "UGH I HATE YOU but also somewhere in your own little twisted world what you do makes total sense" are some of the best villains/antagonists imo!
