Prompt: their golden eyes
I still haven't watched the very last episode but I may or may not have had slight spoilers and omg
the idea had been sitting on my brain for like, a year, and now's the time to get it out!!!
Word count: 365
*slighlty edited after finally seeing s2e9 and rewatched s2e2

Of his ordeal in the snowstorm and miraculuous salvation Jayce remembers
the pain,
the fear,
the Mage’s staff—an aura of strength
his slender frame and the graceful, powerful movements he made, like he was dancing in the air, oblivious to the piercing cold. He never got a proper look of the man’s face, his features hidden under a hood.
And then there was
warmth
weightlessness
wonder—an engulfing blue glow, an unexpectedly warm blue glow. So to this day blue means magic and power and became his favourite colour.
Growing up in Piltover where everything’s lavished in shiny whites and golds desensitized him to such hues very quickly. His family’s iconic red was a fixed features—not good, not bad, not pretty, maybe comforting in a way; just here and the blue remained as a secret.
And then he met Viktor.
Blue did not mean magic and dreams anymore, it was reality
and all of a sudden gold was his new favourite colour instead.
(Good thing that they complement each so well!)
One could think you can’t get lost in your partner’s eyes when they’re a mirror to your own—instead you’ll lose yourself in the madness of being entirely seen.
One would say that Viktor and Jayce have the same eyes.
There’s the same determination, the same feeling in their looks
(at first at least there was)
They have similar golden irises, set in slightly bloodshot sclera from too-long hours of work in unwavering artificial light
golden irises of a slightly different hue;
Viktor’s are slightly brighter,
Jayce’s slightly warmer.
But if you look hard enough, directly, steadily, focusing on the very eyes and the soul beyond
you won’t see the eyelids’ shape anymore, or the skin’s complexion either that offsets by contrast perception of the iris’ exact colour;
Viktor’s complexion being paler
(every passing day a tad paler,)
Jayce’s warm bronze.
You can forgo fluttering eyelashes: on a sustained gazing such as theirs there’s no fluttering anymore. Unblinking—are you looking into your partner’s eyes, or into your own in your mirror?
What is certain is that Jayce and Viktor benefit from one shared vision
(and whatever stuff souls are made of…)
