LWD s5e9!!
Word count: 250 (part 4/4)
i'd start with 3 x 250 words, one ficlet for Garak, one for Bashir, one for their couple but supplemental material kept writing itself so now i have a total of 1000 words yay!!
*
Garak’s long past the need to hunt for Starfleet Secrets and technology to steal but this one is intriguing in itself:
‘So you were created for one purpose: to serve, and don’t do anything but; are you a slave?’
‘I’m an artificial life form! but not a slave no. Lieutenant Data and Vic Fontaine’s cases made jurisprudence and I’ve been granted my own personhood. I’m programmed to want to help, I guess.’
‘Do you resent being a copy?’
‘Oh no. My template is the best and I’m growing beyond my initial programming according to my own experience. I confess I would like to meet again with the real one to compare our experiences, and with Data too. But, well.’
It’s something else, something more, something different, and still so very Starfleet.
‘And you’re supposed to… replace living breathing doctors?’
‘Only in case of emergency when they’re not available and/or time is of the very essence.
My knowledge and my processing speed are superior to biological lifeforms’ but I’m at the mercy of a power failure, and biological lifeforms are so very touchy about their creations outgrowing them. And there’s something about artificial lacking in interpersonal relationships and subtle clues?’
This hologram, Garak finds, is just infuriating enough that discussion is enjoyable.
