Hologram Bashir gets his pleasure from novelty, from new discoveries, from any learning that helps him grow beyond his initial programming. Doctor Garak is happy to provide materials, both cultural (the less said about Cardassian literature outside of their discussions the better) and physical: textures, temperatures…
A hologram feels no pain but has all kind of sensors, all very sensitive, that provide diverse information in all sort of combinations—which is probably not what Vulcan IDIC was about.
They don’t share the Vulcan taboo for touch, having no telepathy, but Cardassian cultural sensibilities say that touching hands is for family and lovers, not even close friends. And there’s the added layer of hands being a surgeon’s tools, so pressing palms and playing patty cake in the infirmary, that is, using said tools for recreation between patients, is stealing personal time at their workplace.
Whenever he gets the chance holoBashir runs his hands all over Garak’s body.
Scales of all sizes, different hardness, and varying body temperature depending on places and environmental circumstances…
His interest is always renewed and he makes all sort of wonderful awed sounds while at it.
‘And all this just from touching..? my, there’s something special here.’
‘Well there’s a lot of speculation af for the real Bashir’s neurotype.
Access to his medical file is restricted, some of it edited, even partially purged, and going over would be a gross violation of his privacy—even though I’m sort of him, based on him, based on said file…’
